This Masala Rava Upma recipe is inherited from my mom’s kitchen and is a favourite in my house. the flavours used in this recipe give it a very satisfying aroma and the taste is undeniably good making this your go-to breakfast in the morning.

Upma is a South Indian Dish and is made for mostly breakfast. Made from Semolina/Suji/Cream Of wheat this dish is a local favourite. This dish can be used as a vegan option if Ghee is replaced by oil. This is a healthy breakfast and yummy to eat.

The Rava is first roasted on low flame till it turns cream in colour and gives out a nice roasted smell. Ghee/coconut oil is used to add to the flavour of this dish. The roasted cashews and urad dal (Lentil) are little surprises to this dish. The onion, chilli and ginger give this dish the kick it needs. Other herbs and spices can be used as per your preference. You can add a little jagger and sugar to give mild sweetness to the dish.

The Memory behind this Masala Rava Upma Recipe

I and mom have a special relation when it comes to cooking. We love sharing recipes and of course I get my recipes mostly from her. But we bond so well in the kitchen. Even though I’m so far way she manages to give me new recipes ideas every now and then. My Parents are so fond of my husband. he gets a special treatment from them and my mom makes sure I cook some nice and tasty food for him.

This Masala Rava upma recipe was recommended by my mom for my husband. So that he can enjoy his breakfast. Well its not just my story but the story in every Indian household. The Son- in-law is treated nicely because at the end of the day its their daughter who goes off to stay at his house. But its now become more of a tradition and now a days even girls are treated the same way.

Try It!!

The only time-consuming item on the list is roasting the rava. You can roast a big batch of rava on low flame and store it in an airtight container. If this is done then the rava takes only 15 minutes to cook. This masala rava is worth the hype and is a quick fix for morning breakfast. Do let me know in the comments if you have tried this recipe. Happy Cooking!!
